Privacy policy
Short version: no accounts, no ads, no selling data. Analytics only if you say yes.

Suraj Shaw, London, United Kingdom, runs World Chaos Map and is the data controller for the sites worldchaosmap.app and docs.worldchaosmap.app. Contact for anything about your data: shaw@worldchaosmap.app.
- Server logs. Like any website, our host (Vercel) receives your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use this to run and secure the service.
- Analytics, only with your consent. If you click Accept on the cookie banner, Google Analytics records pages viewed, features used (for example sharing a card), approximate location (country or city), device and browser. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. Ad features and Google signals are switched off.
- Daily forecast votes. If you vote, we store the date, the country you picked and a random ID created on your device. The ID stops you voting twice a day. It is not linked to your name, email or account.
- Emails you send us. If you email us, we keep your email address and message so we can reply.
- Settings on your device. Followed countries, streaks, game scores and display settings stay in your browser and are never sent to us. See the Cookie policy.
We do not have accounts, we do not ask for your name, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
- Server logs and forecast votes: our legitimate interest in running a working, secure service and stopping duplicate votes.
- Analytics: your consent. You can withdraw it any time from "Cookie settings" in the map footer.
- Emails: our legitimate interest in answering you.
- Server logs: kept by Vercel for a short period, usually days, under its retention settings
- Analytics: no more than 14 months, then deleted automatically by Google
- Forecast votes: kept while the forecast feature runs, to show results; the random ID cannot identify you
- Emails: as long as needed to deal with your message, then deleted
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete your personal data, object to or restrict how we use it, ask for a copy to take elsewhere, and withdraw consent at any time. Email shaw@worldchaosmap.app. We reply within one month. Because we do not know who you are, we may ask for details (such as your forecast ID) to find your data.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
All traffic uses HTTPS, the database is protected by access rules, and our APIs validate every request. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep data safe and collect as little as possible.
We will update this policy if what we collect changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
